Wipe the Slate Clean

How many times have we said to ourselves, “If I had only done this” or “If I had only done that” things would be different now?  Or often times, we hear “if the circumstances had been different, I might have been able to do this or that.”  Statements like these denote a resignation to external forces that shape our destiny.  Doing so creates a defeatist attitude causing one to give up and just accept circumstances as reality, thus creating unhappiness and lamentations over how bad life is.
We do not have to accept externally imposed circumstances as our reality.  There is always an opportunity to wipe the slate clean, and start over, if the will to do so is strong enough.  The decision to change one’s life is a personal one.  When the timing is right, or if the stresses of life become so strong, that you have just had enough, something snaps inside causing movement forward away from the situation causing the tension.
Coming out is one of these decisions.  I know I got pushed over the edge when I was at a conference.  A number of colleagues were incessantly trying to set me up with a very attractive female.  After once again politely saying, “No thank you” numerous times, something snapped inside.  I made a decision to go back home and pronounce to everyone that I was gay and that I was not going to live the lie any longer.  I was not going to continue to make excuses for what I was doing, where I was going and the people I was seeing.  I decided to wipe the slate clean and get rid of the façade I called a life.
Are you ready to wipe your slate clean and create your own destiny?  Are you ready to stop making excuses for not doing what you know deep inside is the right thing to do?  Life’s journey is a personal one and it must be a path that makes one feel happy and fulfilled. Living a life according to how others think your life should be is not what is going to create peace, harmony and unity with one’s soul.

Decide today, this very moment, that what you have done up to this point is in the past.  Pick up the eraser of life and wipe your slate clean.  Begin to write a new script, the grand plan of your life that will make you happy and fulfilled.  It can be done if you will it to be so.
