The mission of IGLTA is to create value for LGBT travelers and expand LGBT tourism globally by demonstrating its significant social and economic impact.

Founded in 1983 with 25 members, the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association now has a truly global presence with more than 2,000 dues-paying member businesses from over 80 countries. IGLTA represents LGBT and LGBT-friendly accommodations, destinations, service providers, travel agents, tour operators, and events, as well as the LGBT travel consumers they wish to serve.

IGLTA is comprised of a staff of seasoned executives, a governing Board of Directors, and 26 Ambassadors representing 23 countries and regions, and serving travel suppliers, buyers, media and LGBT travel consumers through a wide range of activities, events, educational and networking opportunities, digital platforms, and an annual global convention.

The IGLTA Foundation was established as a separate entity in 2012 to expand educational opportunities for students in LGBT travel and tourism, to assist emerging LGBT destinations, and to positively influence the experiences of LGBT travelers and local communities through meaningful volunteer and donation projects.

Some quick facts on IGLTA:  1)  Just over half of IGLTA membership is U.S. based. France, Germany and the U.K. have the most IGLTA members in Europe. Argentina and Brazil, for South America; 2)  When IGLTA was established in Hollywood, Florida, USA, it was originally IGTA; the “L” was added in 1997; 3)  Its 30th Annual Global Convention will be in Chicago, IL, May 1-5, 2013; 4)  In November 2010, IGLTA became the first gay organization welcomed into the Affiliate Member program of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO);  5)  TravelOutNewsWire, our opt-in news release service with NLGJA and Witeck Communications, distributes IGLTA and other LGBT travel news to more than 350 media outlets, freelancers and bloggers in 20-plus countries.
